A bell weighing 2,100 pounds and costing $950 was purchased to hang in the tower in 1869. This bell, bought by the Ladies Sewing Society, was rung for the first time on December 5, 1869. It bears the following inscription: "Come unto me, hear and your soul shall live." ISA. I. V3." On the other side is written, "St. John's Church AD 1869."
